To get your first RN license in Minnesota, you graduate from an approved nursing program, apply for licensure by examination through the Minnesota Board of Nursing, complete the required background check, and pass the NCLEX-RN. Yes. Minnesota requires a fingerprint-based criminal background check to get an initial RN license. Applicants must submit fingerprints (a fingerprint packet is emailed by the Board's Criminal Background Check program office) as part of the mandatory criminal background check, which carries a separate $32 fee from the $105 application fee.
