To get your first RN license in New Mexico, you graduate from an approved nursing program, apply for licensure by examination through the New Mexico Board of Nursing, complete the required background check, and pass the NCLEX-RN. Yes. New Mexico requires a fingerprint-based criminal background check to get an initial RN license. NMAC 16.12.2.10(A) requires initial applicants to submit fingerprints via Idemia/IdentoGO for a state (Department of Public Safety) and national (FBI) criminal background check, at the applicant's cost ($59).
