Hitting your total CE hours isn't enough if your state earmarks some of them for specific topics, a generic clinical course won't satisfy a mandated subject.
"My state wants 24 hours, so any 24 hours of nursing CE will do, the subjects are up to me."
Many states require specific mandatory topics, medical-error prevention, human trafficking, laws and rules, controlled-substance/opioid prescribing, and domestic violence are common ones, and each must be on that exact subject. A generic clinical course does not satisfy a mandated topic. In most states these mandated hours count within your total rather than on top of it, but you still have to complete the specific course. Florida is the classic example, with earmarked hours for medical errors, Florida laws and rules, human trafficking, and more.
