To get your first RN license in Hawaii, you graduate from an approved nursing program, apply for licensure by examination through the Hawaii Board of Nursing, complete the required background check, and pass the NCLEX-RN. Yes. Hawaii requires a fingerprint-based criminal background check to get an initial RN license. Since July 1, 2017, all new applicants for a Hawaii nurse license (LPN, RN, APRN) must submit a full set of electronic fingerprints via Fieldprint Inc. to obtain both an FBI national criminal history check and a Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center (state police) criminal history check.
