Connecticut has one of the lightest CE requirements for RNs and LPNs in the country: just 2 contact hours once every 6 years on mental health screening and suicide prevention. However, licenses must be renewed annually by the last day of the nurse's birth month. APRNs have a more substantial requirement of 50 CE hours every 2 years. Connecticut joined the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) effective October 1, 2025, allowing eligible nurses to hold a multistate license. A 90-day grace period allows continued practice while completing a late renewal.

She logs in to the state's eLicense portal (elicense.ct.gov) with her eLicense User ID, completes the online renewal (online renewal is mandatory for nurses), attests within the application that she has satisfied the CE requirement (for RNs/LPNs, the 2-hour mental health screening/suicide prevention training once every 6 years), and pays the fee by credit/debit card. She then keeps her own certificates of completion for at least 3 years after the year the CE was completed, producing them only if the Department of Public Health requests them (45-day response window). There is no upload field, no CE Broker, and no provider auto-reporting.

www.elicense.ct.govConnecticut uses an on-demand records-request model rather than a published random-audit percentage: the Department of Public Health may request a licensee's CE records at any time, and the nurse "shall submit such records or certificates to the department for inspection not later than forty-five days after a request by the department." Records ("records of attendance or certificates of completion") must be retained "for a minimum of three years following the year in which the continuing education was completed." The DPH page does not publish how licensees are selected for a records request, nor a specific submission channel (upload vs. mail vs. email) for audit documents, the request from the department specifies where to send them. No fixed audit percentage is announced.

Missed your Connecticut renewal deadline?
90-day grace period following license expiration. Nurses may continue to practice during this period while renewing. On the 91st day, the license becomes void and reinstatement is required ($180 for RN, $150 for LPN, $200 for APRN).
