Maine does not require continuing education hours for RN or LPN license renewal, making it one of the simplest renewal processes in the country. APRNs, however, must complete 50 contact hours every 2 years, with at least 30 hours in Category I and 3 hours on opioid prescribing for those with prescriptive authority. Licenses renew on the nurse's birthday every 2 years with no grace period. Maine is a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) member state, allowing nurses with a multistate license to practice across all compact states.
