Nebraska requires RNs and LPNs to complete 20 hours of continuing education per 2-year renewal cycle. APRNs must complete 40 hours (20 RN hours plus 20 APRN-specific hours including 10 in pharmacotherapeutics). At least 10 of those hours must be peer-reviewed, and no more than 4 hours can come from CPR or BLS training. APRNs who prescribe controlled substances must include 3 hours on opioid prescribing. RN and APRN licenses expire October 31 of even-numbered years, while LPN licenses expire on October 31 of odd-numbered years. Nebraska is a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) member state, allowing multistate license holders to practice across all compact states.
