Nebraska does not impose a flat continuing-education mandate for RN and LPN renewal. Instead, nurses satisfy continued competency by meeting any ONE of six options: 500 practice hours in five years plus 20 contact hours of approved CE; recent graduation; an approved refresher course; current national specialty certification; or a maintained competency portfolio. A nationally certified nurse can renew with zero CE. The former requirement that 10 of 20 hours be peer-reviewed was repealed. APRNs renew by maintaining current national certification (there is no separate APRN CE-hour total), and APRN-NPs and APRN-CNMs who prescribe must complete 3 hours of opiate-prescribing CE (including 30 minutes on the PDMP) under a time-limited 2020–2028 mandate. RN and APRN licenses expire October 31 of even-numbered years; LPN licenses expire October 31 of odd-numbered years. Nebraska is a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) member state.
