Mississippi does not mandate continuing education hours for RN or LPN license renewal, placing the responsibility for maintaining professional competency on each individual nurse. APRNs must complete 5 contact hours related to controlled substances per certification period. RN/APRN licenses renew in even-numbered years and LPN licenses in odd-numbered years, with tiered late fees for renewals after December 31. Mississippi is a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) member state, allowing nurses with a multistate license to practice across all compact states.

Mississippi does NOT require CEUs to renew an RN or LPN license, so there is nothing to submit at renewal; the nurse attests and renews. Board FAQ: “The Mississippi Nursing Practice Law does not mandate CEUs as a prerequisite to renewing or maintaining a RN or LPN license. The law does require the nurse to maintain competency in his/her nursing practice, but that responsibility rests with each nurse.” CE hours (a minimum of 20 contact hours earned in the previous 2 years) are required only when an RN/LPN has been OUT of practice for more than five years (a reinstatement condition), not for ordinary renewal. CE Broker is the board's official free tracking system and is REQUIRED for APRNs, but for RN/LPN renewal (no CE mandate) it is optional.

www.msbn.ms.govFor RN/LPN ordinary renewal there is no CE-hours audit (no CE mandate). For APRNs, upon notification of audit the APRN must submit certificates/transcripts/documentation within ten (10) business days.
